The Oeuvre Notre-Dame craftsmen strive to preserve the traditional tools, or to re-discover those long since abandoned, with the help of the marks left on the stone by their predecessors. There are very few universal tools: generic tools were adapted to meet specific needs, with as much precision as possible. This explains the variety of shapes and names. We have limited our list to the generic tools for each type of trade, with the marks left behind by each tool, in chronological order of use.
